Failure is a Moment in Time

What are you afraid of?

I have seen people who allow fear to prevent them from
accomplishing their goals.

However, fear can be a good thing.  It fosters a sense of
carefulness.

Fear can also breed motivation. I know many people who have
changed their lives after being diagnosed with a disease. The
fear of dying or being in pain has ignited their passion and
motivated them to get moving and embrace life. Why? Because
their stopwatch has been started. They realize that each moment
is precious and that the moments are fleeting away. They feel
that dawdling is no longer an option. They believe in the here
and now.

Many people without a medical diagnosis (other than
gluteal-stuckitis—the inability to get off your butt and get
moving) will not begin to pursue their dreams, goals, or
passions because they fear failure. I sometimes think that if
people were not afraid of what other people would say or think,
they would be willing to try and fail at more things in life.

I‘ve read time and time again, “Fail as fast as you can.” Take a
moment and think about that comment. If you fail as fast as you
can and you are able to LEARN from those failures, you’ll be
able to move closer to your goal. You’ll be able to determine
what doesn’t work.

When a newspaper reporter asked Thomas Edison about the failures
he had experienced while trying to create the light bulb, he
replied, “I have not failed 700 times. I have not failed once. I
have succeeded in proving that those 700 ways will not work.
When I have eliminated the ways that will not work, I will find
the way that will work."

Many people don’t even allow themselves a chance to fail. Is
failure absolute? How many times have we heard about a Hollywood
star losing everything because of drugs and then making a
comeback?

Failure is just a moment in time.

If you feel you have failed at something in life, take a step
back, assess, modify and start over again.

Stop fearing failure.

James F. Bell said it best, “The antidote to fear is courage.
Fear is an insidious virus. Given a breeding place in our minds,
it will permeate the whole body of our work; it will eat away
our spirit and block the forward path of our endeavors. Fear is
the greatest enemy of progress. Fear is met and destroyed with
courage. Again and again, when the struggle seems hopeless and
all opportunity lost-some man or woman with a little more
courage, a little more effort, brings victory.”
