What is Happening to My Body?

I frequently hear this question from my baby boomer patients.  The males complain that it takes them longer to heal when they exercise too much.  They say they just can’t get rid of their love handles.  My female patients complain of weight gain and whole body fatigue.

Am I Dizzy with Love?

Please enjoy this article I wrote for www.Boomer-Living.com “Was I dizzy with love or was it something else”, asked one of my patients.

The Secrets of Traveling Pain-Free

Please enjoy this article I wrote for www.Boomer-Living.com Old man winter is coming and the minds of those of us living back east turn to thoughts of traveling to warmer climates. Holidays beckon us to go home to our families. Some of us can’t wait to get on the ski slopes. There are many reasons to travel during winter, and I hope that if you have the opportunity to do so, you can do so without pain.

Unfortunately, traveling usually requires a lot of sitting. Prolonged sitting can wreak havoc on the body.

If I Can Only Touch My Toes

Twenty-seven was a great age. If an object fell to the floor, I did not hesitate to bend down and pick it up, and I certainly didn’t think twice about the proper way to bend.

Success Does Not Come Over Night

This past weekend I spent some time in a Borders bookstore. Yes, I have an affinity towards books. I can tell you I have a personal relationship with Borders and Amazon.com. As far as I am concerned there is not enough time to read all the books I want to read, especially as new ones come out each week.

Luck vs. Work

Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States of
America, said, "I am a great believer in luck, and I find that
the harder I work, the more I have of it."

What do you believe in?

Do you believe in divine direction or luck or hard work?

Maybe you believe in all of them or in a little of each.

Personally, I don't want to put my future in the hands of
"luck" or "divine direction."

However, I do very much believe in hard work.

The Complete Push-up Program

About 10 years ago I was exercising with free weights approximately 3- 5 times a week. I was feeling great. I was performing chest press, shoulder presses over head (military presses), Barbell squats, dead lifts, heavy dumbbell rows, barbell curls and overhead Tricep extensions.

Wouldn't It Be Nice If We Had Training Wheels for Life?

I went bowling today with my kid.

It was actually very pleasant. There was no smoking or alcohol. Usually when I leave a bowling alley I feel like I need to be scrubbed down.

The thing I found most interesting is how we made bowling EASY for everyone.

The bowling facility has bumpers. This allows anybody to throw or roll the ball down the lane without going off course and the ball falling into the gutter. It's like training wheels but for bowling.

When Ignorance Is Not Bliss. Not Being Prepared When Your Significant Other Dies

A patient of mine returned to the office after two months of not being seen. I had only seen her once, before and I didn't know why she stopped coming in for visits after that. I left messages on her answering machine but did not receive any return call, and now here she sits in my office today.

As you can imagine, my first question was simple, "Where have you been and are you okay?" Her reply was a flood of tears. And so today I write this article hoping that her story will help you.

The Quest for Willpower

Flower A. Newhouse, a Christian mystic, once said, "Lack of willpower has caused more failure than lack of intelligence or ability."

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines willpower as "energetic determination." Synonyms of willpower include "self-discipline," "self-government," "self-mastery," "self-command," "self-control" and "self-restraint."
